I saw the whole movie on IFC a few years ago and was really impressed w/ the line-up. The Dead, Janis ,The Band, Buddy Guy, Eric Anderson,Delaney and Bonnie and Friends and some more assorted groups. They were trekking by train to various festivals across Canada going east to west. When I wondered why the Dead or some of the group never showed up for The Bands Last Waltz it was like you guys didn't think they even knew each other and as it turns out they were very good friends. So I'll say it again why w/ the assorted stars that related to or played w/ The Band that night was Jerry or anyone one from the Dead not there. It was The Bands swan song and out of respect, and clearly being comfotable at Winterland why wasn't Jerry or some member of the Dead not there.

Maybe the were there and didn't play, maybe they weren't invited. It being Thanksgiving they might have had other plans,or maybe they didn't feel the Band's last show was all that significant. In any case it is not disrespectful if no one from the GD showed up.I've never read or heard anything on the subject.
